How to Save Your Last Shred of Sanity During Social Isolation

Things are weird in the world. ‘Nuff said.

If you’re like us, you might be getting a little stir-crazy. Being stuck inside and away from your regular daily routine is generally no bueno. Many of us are now working from home, trying to homeschool our kids, and not able to access our favorite activities.

“The coronavirus (COVID-19) is already proving to be an unprecedented disruption in our industry and economy. We are doing everything in our power to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

– Brandon Mackay, SnugZ USA CEO

It’s safe to say we’re all a little out of our comfort zone and worried about the effects of COVID-19. Shelter-in-place orders are popping up all over the world, forcing us to adapt. Since you’ve probably already run through your Netflix queue, here are a few ideas to keep you occupied and sane during social isolation.

Learn that new thing you’ve put off

Now that we have so much more time at home, we have the great opportunity to try out all those “someday” activities you’ve been meaning to try. Connect with your artist by painting a Bob-Ross-esque masterpiece. Read that book that has been on your nightstand for six months. Cook an elaborate meal (chicken nuggets can be included).

Video Chat!

Man, aren’t we lucky that this quarantine is happening in an age where we can still connect with our loved ones from afar? Give your mom a call, see your friend’s faces, or watch movies together with your long-distance significant other. Just because we are directed to socially distance ourselves does not mean we can’t still reach out. FaceTime, Marco Polo, Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger all support video chat.

Make screen time convenient & stylish

Many of us are spending more time than usual staring at our phones, whether it be video conferencing, binging your favorite shows, or scrolling through Instagram. Why not make it more convenient?

Try our new Momo Stick. This simple device attaches to the back of your phone, adding barely any bulk, while allowing you to push up the attached band to create a perfect grip for your finger. It also acts as a stand to prop up your phone for optimal Netflix viewing (don’t lie–we know you’re watching Parks & Rec for the eighth time).

It’s the ultimate work-from-home accessory. Customize with your branding in full color direct print today! And while you’re at it, check out our full line of work-from-home centered products.

Kids: It Takes a Village

We all know that our littlest friends thrive on routine, so having all this uncertainty can make the stuck-at-home experience…..not so fun. But life doesn’t stop! Kiddos still have homework, still want high-energy playtime, and still miss their normal activities. Never fear! Humanity has banded together to give us some hope.

  • There is a movement of teachers who are continuing their teaching online! While there are literally hundreds of resources for home-schooling, here’s just one article that you might find helpful.
  • Movie-makers announced several early movie releases to various streaming and rental services, including Sonic the Hedgehog and Pixar’s Onward. You’re on your own for popcorn though.
  • On that same note, Disney+ released Frozen II early. Just sayin’.
  • Local libraries are streaming their story times. Here’s a library near SnugZ that does daily “Cabin-Fever” story time at 10 am MST.
  • Several zoos, including the Cincinnati Zoo, are going live with their furriest friends.
  • Audible is streaming children’s (and a few adult) audiobooks for free!

Adults: It Takes a Village

Screw it, it’s not only the kids that need to stay occupied! Here’s a handy-dandy list of newly-published resources that can keep you entertained, busy, and learning during social isolation.

  • Many Broadway plays are being published online. You can get 7 days of non-stop streaming for free right here.
  • You can wander virtually around art museums from all over the world. No travel required.
  • Download Duolingo and start learning one of 31 languages totally for free.

Above all, stay healthy

The United States Government has strongly recommended social isolation, as well as self-quarantine measures. We encourage all to take these warnings seriously and obey local and national guidelines.

Now more than ever, it is important to keep washing your hands (minimum of 20 seconds with antibacterial soap!), practicing social distancing, and disinfecting common surfaces. Stay safe, stay home, and stay healthy!

COVID-19 has impacted us all, both professionally and personally. Many of our own SnugZ family are sheltering in place at their homes. Luckily, we have some phenomenal products perfect for creating the ideal home office. Download the flyer below to begin sharing these ideas today.

Sick Days Who? 5 Habits to Keep You Healthy (Hint: Promo Sanitizer)

Manufactured in the USA in an FDA-registered facility

Cold and flu season can have you feeling run down. But life doesn’t stop! You still have work, school, and a million other responsibilities that can’t be avoided. We get it. Being under the weather sucks. What do you do when you strongly suspect Sharon from one-desk-over doesn’t just have allergies?

Living by these 5 easy tips will help you stay healthy and avoid those sick days, even if Sharon refuses to keep her germs to herself.

Wash Hands Thoroughly

It’s the end-all-be-all of avoiding cold and flu season. It may seem like a basic habit, but are you washing correctly? No more of this “rinse and run” behavior allowed! The FDA advises you should “wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.” Take extra time to scrub in between your fingers, up your arms, and underneath your fingernails. You never know where those bad nasties might be hiding.

Use Hand Sanitizer

Ideally, we’d all wash our hands all the time, but this isn’t always possible, especially when the restaurant bathroom line is long and every single soap dispenser is somehow out. In those scenarios where soap and water aren’t available, the CDC suggests using “an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol to reduce the number of germs on your hands.”

Not to toot our own horn, but all our sanitizer is 63.5% alcohol. We’ve worked hard to create the perfect formula for eliminating 99.9% of germs. And because we make our sanitizers in our FDA-registered Utah facility, we have plenty in stock and we’re making more each and every day. From cap to bottle to ingredients: it’s all made here in the USA. 99.9% effective, 100% stocked.

Get back to basics and try our 1 oz. unscented sanitizers. They’re perfectly sized for keeping in your car, purse, desk drawer, or anywhere really. It’s a win-win-win-win.

Stay Hydrated

The FDA also recommends avoiding alcohol and caffeinated products when you’re sick. Now is the time to be avoiding those early morning coffees and late night beers (bummer, we know). Each of these products robs your system of fluids that may help you fight viruses and infections.

Drinking liquids like waters, juices, and herbal teas help replenish the fluids you lose when running a fever or fighting a cold. Try keeping a glass on your desk during the day and next to your bed at night.

Get Enough Sleep

It may seem an obvious solution, but getting adequate rest is essential for avoiding illness. While the necessity of sleep is still largely unknown, scientists do know that sleep is your body’s time to fight bugs, repair injuries, and regenerate energy. A factory update for your body, if you will.

It’s doubly important that you take the time for extra sleep when it’s “under-the-weather” season. Try heading to bed an hour early, avoiding screens for 1-2 hours before bed, and wearing your comfiest pajamas (not because it helps, but because who doesn’t love fuzzy pajamas?)

Keep Common Items Clean

Of course you wash your hands and of course you use sanitizer. But have you thought about sanitizing those things you touch all the time? Studies show that frequently-handled items like light switches, computer keyboards, and cell phones are the guilty culprits of germ transfer. Consider washing and disinfecting those items often to avoid illness. Don’t just wash yourself. Wash your stuff too.

All sanitizer packaging & product is made in the USA in an FDA-registered facility. Learn more at SnugZUSA.com or give us a call at (888) 447-6840.

Just Out of Curiosity, What Do You Really Know About Reef-Safe Sunscreen?

Last May Hawaii’s state legislature passed a bill that prevents the sale of chemical sunscreens that not only cause harm to your body, but have been linked to coral bleaching. Senate Bill 2571 prohibits the sale and distribution of any sunscreen that contains common UV-filtering ingredients, such as oxybenzone or octinoxate beginning January 1, 2021. According to the Archives of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology “chemicals in sunscreen kill coral and result in DNA damage in larval and adult stage coral. The impact on DNA limits coral’s ability to grow and develop healthily.”

Awareness is growing that sunscreen is a large contributing factor when it comes to one-fifth of the world’s coral reefs dying off over the past three years. It is estimated that anywhere from 6,000 to 14,000 tons of sunscreen, or the equivalent of 25 to 60 million bottles (yes, you read that right), wash off of swimmers and deposit into coral reef areas each year.

Reefs are not only dying at the hands of chemical sunscreen, but global climate change plays a main role as well due to rising ocean temperatures that cause coral to bleach. Why is this such a big deal?

  • Millions of tourists are drawn to the colorful reefs every year (highly vulnerable to sunscreen-induced coral bleaching)
  • According to the Smithsonian 25% of ocean life depend on reefs for food and shelter

So, in essence, we as humans need to take care of these spectacular ecosystems.

What can we do to help in the promotional products industry?

In order to save coral reefs there’s a lot of work to be done, but our choice as businesses and individuals in the Promotional Products Industry to promote reef-safe sunscreen can help reduce our impact on the environment! There are plenty of reef-safe options on the market for your consumers to choose from and that’s a great start.

Sunscreen: Pretty Much the Greatest Summer Promo Ever Invented

Rocky

For many of us, depending on where you live in the world, days are becoming longer and temperatures are rising. SUMMER! Don’t worry; there’s no need to keep your excitement contained! Yes, summer is right around the corner and with that excitement it’s easy to forget about that inevitable and dreaded first burn. We’re not talking about that insult from the bully in 7th grade that you finally have a comeback to. Think more along the lines of an ugly and red full body sun tattoo. Ouch! Remembering the pain yet?

Summer is the greatest thing invented since electricity, sliced bread and John Stamos! Which brings us to our next point: sunscreen is pretty much the greatest summer promo ever invented. You may be asking yourself, why? Here’s an easy answer to your question, because EVERYONE uses sunscreen!

UV Rays & Compliance

If there’s one thing even your grandma knows best about summer it’s that the sun’s UV laser beams are threatening to penetrate your luscious skin with the fury of 20 Sylvester Stallone’s in the latest Rocky re-boot.

UV is short for ultraviolet. According to skincancer.org both UVA and UVB rays penetrate the atmosphere and play an important role in conditions such as premature skin aging, eye damage (including cataracts), and skin cancers.  At SnugZ USA our sunscreen formula and ingredients are always kept up to date with compliance standards. Rest assured, you can count on us to deliver a sunscreen product that is safe, PABA free, and USA Made in an FDA Registered facility that will protect from harmful UV rays.

Case Study & Event Ideas

A distributor customer of ours called a few weeks ago seeking a unique promotional item for a local mountain bike race series. Their client explained: “I want a giveaway that truly connects with our riders. Something they’ll use throughout the summer at every race.”

Duo Bottle with Carabiner
Instantaneously, we both knew that the Duo Bottle with SPF 50 Sunscreen fill, SPF 15 Lip Balm and Carabiner (ZSUNPL19D –ZLBPWT) would deliver exactly what the race director wanted and more. Racers are stoked to have these for the 2017 season and they plan on ordering more to stock on their race website!

Not only is sunscreen great for MTB racing, but here are some other great ideas:

  • 5Ks
  • Marathons
  • Rock Climbing
  • Universities
  • Outdoor Events
  • Ski & Summer Resorts
  • Tradeshow Giveaways
  • Recreation Centers
  • Much More!

Do you know where your order is?

You: Picks up the phone to call the customer service line from a supplier that promised your order would be to you on time. That was 3 weeks ago…

Customer Service: No answer. Waiting, the phone rings at least 20 times.

You: Hang up and begin to wonder in frustration what you’re going to tell your client who’s waiting.

Unfortunately this scenario, for a lot of us, isn’t far from some of the customer service experiences we’ve had.  Don’t count on an over-seas supplier to deliver on time.

Fortunately at SnugZ USA we are open all year long and source from local inventory and products made right here in the USA.  Let us take care of your promo needs and give you peace of mind.

Trust us and order today: snugzusa.com

Why choose compliancy?

In the promotional marketing industry, it is important to stress the value of compliancy for many reasons. First and foremost, “It’s the law,” states Richard Massey, in charge of Regulatory Affairs at SnugZ USA. “We ensure that we have done what we can to make our products safe.”

It is essential to create a safe environment for our employees and our customers. In doing so, we are one of the only lanyard, personal care, and food and gift facilities to be Quality Certification Alliance (QCA) accredited. We meet the QCA high standards for quality, are compliant, and socially responsible.

According to the QCA website, the “QCA Accreditation is a process of comprehensive validation that confirms a promotional products supplier has processes in place intended to detect and deter any non-compliant product from entering the marketplace. The QCA Certification Process harmonizes the ever-increasing array of compliance tools, identifies the most rigorous standards, measures these standards, and continuously revises and updates the measures and methodology to reflect evolving concerns. Accreditation / Certification is granted to companies who complete an independent third-party audit and comply with stringent standards, which are based upon a combination of state and national laws, international standards and industry-accepted best practices that are recognized for their strength and effectiveness by QCA Accredited companies, the promotional products industry and end-user clients.”

Having this accreditation of compliancy guarantees our customers a quality product they can trust. Our products have a low risk for potential recall issues, in turn, reducing cost and wasted time. This also allows us to improve products and standards within the industry, while making a positive environmental impact.

We don’t think compliancy is a choice; it’s a professional responsibility.
