How to Save Your Last Shred of Sanity During Social Isolation

Things are weird in the world. ‘Nuff said.

If you’re like us, you might be getting a little stir-crazy. Being stuck inside and away from your regular daily routine is generally no bueno. Many of us are now working from home, trying to homeschool our kids, and not able to access our favorite activities.

“The coronavirus (COVID-19) is already proving to be an unprecedented disruption in our industry and economy. We are doing everything in our power to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

– Brandon Mackay, SnugZ USA CEO

It’s safe to say we’re all a little out of our comfort zone and worried about the effects of COVID-19. Shelter-in-place orders are popping up all over the world, forcing us to adapt. Since you’ve probably already run through your Netflix queue, here are a few ideas to keep you occupied and sane during social isolation.

Learn that new thing you’ve put off

Now that we have so much more time at home, we have the great opportunity to try out all those “someday” activities you’ve been meaning to try. Connect with your artist by painting a Bob-Ross-esque masterpiece. Read that book that has been on your nightstand for six months. Cook an elaborate meal (chicken nuggets can be included).

Video Chat!

Man, aren’t we lucky that this quarantine is happening in an age where we can still connect with our loved ones from afar? Give your mom a call, see your friend’s faces, or watch movies together with your long-distance significant other. Just because we are directed to socially distance ourselves does not mean we can’t still reach out. FaceTime, Marco Polo, Zoom, Skype, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger all support video chat.

Make screen time convenient & stylish

Many of us are spending more time than usual staring at our phones, whether it be video conferencing, binging your favorite shows, or scrolling through Instagram. Why not make it more convenient?

Try our new Momo Stick. This simple device attaches to the back of your phone, adding barely any bulk, while allowing you to push up the attached band to create a perfect grip for your finger. It also acts as a stand to prop up your phone for optimal Netflix viewing (don’t lie–we know you’re watching Parks & Rec for the eighth time).

It’s the ultimate work-from-home accessory. Customize with your branding in full color direct print today! And while you’re at it, check out our full line of work-from-home centered products.

Kids: It Takes a Village

We all know that our littlest friends thrive on routine, so having all this uncertainty can make the stuck-at-home experience…..not so fun. But life doesn’t stop! Kiddos still have homework, still want high-energy playtime, and still miss their normal activities. Never fear! Humanity has banded together to give us some hope.

  • There is a movement of teachers who are continuing their teaching online! While there are literally hundreds of resources for home-schooling, here’s just one article that you might find helpful.
  • Movie-makers announced several early movie releases to various streaming and rental services, including Sonic the Hedgehog and Pixar’s Onward. You’re on your own for popcorn though.
  • On that same note, Disney+ released Frozen II early. Just sayin’.
  • Local libraries are streaming their story times. Here’s a library near SnugZ that does daily “Cabin-Fever” story time at 10 am MST.
  • Several zoos, including the Cincinnati Zoo, are going live with their furriest friends.
  • Audible is streaming children’s (and a few adult) audiobooks for free!

Adults: It Takes a Village

Screw it, it’s not only the kids that need to stay occupied! Here’s a handy-dandy list of newly-published resources that can keep you entertained, busy, and learning during social isolation.

  • Many Broadway plays are being published online. You can get 7 days of non-stop streaming for free right here.
  • You can wander virtually around art museums from all over the world. No travel required.
  • Download Duolingo and start learning one of 31 languages totally for free.

Above all, stay healthy

The United States Government has strongly recommended social isolation, as well as self-quarantine measures. We encourage all to take these warnings seriously and obey local and national guidelines.

Now more than ever, it is important to keep washing your hands (minimum of 20 seconds with antibacterial soap!), practicing social distancing, and disinfecting common surfaces. Stay safe, stay home, and stay healthy!

COVID-19 has impacted us all, both professionally and personally. Many of our own SnugZ family are sheltering in place at their homes. Luckily, we have some phenomenal products perfect for creating the ideal home office. Download the flyer below to begin sharing these ideas today.

Sick Days Who? 5 Habits to Keep You Healthy (Hint: Promo Sanitizer)

Manufactured in the USA in an FDA-registered facility

Cold and flu season can have you feeling run down. But life doesn’t stop! You still have work, school, and a million other responsibilities that can’t be avoided. We get it. Being under the weather sucks. What do you do when you strongly suspect Sharon from one-desk-over doesn’t just have allergies?

Living by these 5 easy tips will help you stay healthy and avoid those sick days, even if Sharon refuses to keep her germs to herself.

Wash Hands Thoroughly

It’s the end-all-be-all of avoiding cold and flu season. It may seem like a basic habit, but are you washing correctly? No more of this “rinse and run” behavior allowed! The FDA advises you should “wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.” Take extra time to scrub in between your fingers, up your arms, and underneath your fingernails. You never know where those bad nasties might be hiding.

Use Hand Sanitizer

Ideally, we’d all wash our hands all the time, but this isn’t always possible, especially when the restaurant bathroom line is long and every single soap dispenser is somehow out. In those scenarios where soap and water aren’t available, the CDC suggests using “an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol to reduce the number of germs on your hands.”

Not to toot our own horn, but all our sanitizer is 63.5% alcohol. We’ve worked hard to create the perfect formula for eliminating 99.9% of germs. And because we make our sanitizers in our FDA-registered Utah facility, we have plenty in stock and we’re making more each and every day. From cap to bottle to ingredients: it’s all made here in the USA. 99.9% effective, 100% stocked.

Get back to basics and try our 1 oz. unscented sanitizers. They’re perfectly sized for keeping in your car, purse, desk drawer, or anywhere really. It’s a win-win-win-win.

Stay Hydrated

The FDA also recommends avoiding alcohol and caffeinated products when you’re sick. Now is the time to be avoiding those early morning coffees and late night beers (bummer, we know). Each of these products robs your system of fluids that may help you fight viruses and infections.

Drinking liquids like waters, juices, and herbal teas help replenish the fluids you lose when running a fever or fighting a cold. Try keeping a glass on your desk during the day and next to your bed at night.

Get Enough Sleep

It may seem an obvious solution, but getting adequate rest is essential for avoiding illness. While the necessity of sleep is still largely unknown, scientists do know that sleep is your body’s time to fight bugs, repair injuries, and regenerate energy. A factory update for your body, if you will.

It’s doubly important that you take the time for extra sleep when it’s “under-the-weather” season. Try heading to bed an hour early, avoiding screens for 1-2 hours before bed, and wearing your comfiest pajamas (not because it helps, but because who doesn’t love fuzzy pajamas?)

Keep Common Items Clean

Of course you wash your hands and of course you use sanitizer. But have you thought about sanitizing those things you touch all the time? Studies show that frequently-handled items like light switches, computer keyboards, and cell phones are the guilty culprits of germ transfer. Consider washing and disinfecting those items often to avoid illness. Don’t just wash yourself. Wash your stuff too.

All sanitizer packaging & product is made in the USA in an FDA-registered facility. Learn more at SnugZUSA.com or give us a call at (888) 447-6840.

It’s Heeeere: Cold & Flu Season, Time to Bring in Promo Sanitizer

no. 22 No Bad Nasties

As winter sets in we all know deep down, even though some of us have a hard time admitting it, that the inevitable and dreaded cold and flu season is soon to follow. Not to scare you, but some might say it’s already here (Pssst…they’re right). Just like a bear goes into hibernation in late November you can count on the Bad Nasties to re-surface from their abhorrent abyss where they’ve been lurking and scheming as to how they’re going to get you sick. People will soon be blowing through sick days faster than Ferris Bueller, it’s time to bring in the reinforcements: promo hand sanitizers from SnugZ USA.

Bad & Nasty

People need to be saved from that unpleasant sick-day-ending to the story. Why? Well, because noone likes the mid-winter office ghost town. Where hacking, sniffling, and nose trumpeting echo through cubicles. And lonely office chairs await their masters’ return.

During these cold months custom branded hand sanitizer is a great opportunity to not only gain exposure for your company, but to lend a clean hand (pun intended) and help prevent people from getting sick. Here’s why hand sanitizer is an effective way to promote your brand this winter:

1 – Sanitizer is a need, not a want. When is comes to health there is no compromise. People will do anything to avoid coming down with the flu. Can you blame them?

2 – Put your brand in their hands (literally). Right this moment someone is reaching into their purse, opening their glove box, heading for the medicine cabinet…you get the picture. Your name and logo will be seen and touched tens if not hundreds of times a day per person. The numbers really begin to add up.

3 – At home, in the car and don’t forget the office. That brings us to our next point, hand sanitizer is a budget friendly item. Meaning, give your customer 2 or 3 to keep you top of mind wherever they have a need for sanitizer.

4 – Going, going, gone. Each and every drop of that hand sanitizer will go to use this cold and flu season. Your marketing dollars will go further with custom branded sanitizer.

5 – They’ll thank you. At the end of the day it’s about developing and nurturing that relationship with your customer. In the end they’ll remember how you gave them a cool item that showed care for their well-being.

Don’t wait for those Bad Nasties to descend on your business, office, customers, or school. Because like death and taxes, those germs will come. Customize and order your promo hand sanitizers today!

Healthy Practices to Keep You Cold & Flu Free

History of the Flu

Have you heard about the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918? According to History.com, it was the deadliest in history, infecting an estimated 500 million people worldwide. At the time, that accumulated for about one-third of the planet’s population. It killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including 675,000 Americans. The never-before-seen 1918 flu strain was detected first in Europe, United Starts and parts of Asia before making its way around the world. Transport yourself to that time period and try to imagine having no effective drugs, vaccines or treatments for today’s flu let alone, back then.

What is the flu and how do you get it?

WebMD defines it as: Influenza, commonly known as the “flu”, is an extremely contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza A or B viruses (Bad Nasties). The virus is spread through the air when a person coughs, sneezes, talks etc. You can also become infected by touching something with the virus already on it and then making contact with your eyes, nose or mouth. “Flu season” tends to run from late fall into early spring here in the United States.

Man infected with the influenza or flu virus

So if you’re asking yourself (trust us, you aren’t alone), “How do I protect myself and loved ones from germs and Bad Nasties?”, then here’s some healthy practices to keep you cold and flu free this year:

1. Hygiene

  • Wash your hands often using warm water and anti-bacterial soap for 15-20 seconds.
  • Avoid favorite destinations of germs and Bad Nasties like public restrooms, restaurants, airplanes, and hotels just to name a few.
  • Make it a habit to put on hand sanitizer. When used properly it can eliminate up to 99.9% of germs on skin – Get EQP minus 15% on these best selling sanitizers! Hurry offer ends 2/28/2018

  • Drink a proper amount of water.

3. Change Your Lifestyle

  • Exercise: choose a physical activity that’s fun and works for you.
  • Eliminate stress through meditation or yoga (this promotes good health).
  • Rest up. Never take for granted a good night’s sleep, 6-8 hours depending on you.
  • Go outside to enjoy fresh air and sunshine.

5 Ideas to Make Your Corporate Wellness Program Thrive

no. 2 Corporate Wellness

Did you know 80% of employees at companies with booming wellness programs feel more bought in and cared for by employers?

Health and wellness programs have become popular in many companies to bring in and keep top talent, create a fun and productive work environment, and promote overall well being. A successful wellness program strikes a balance between educating employees on self-care while still having fun. If your team isn’t engaged or having fun, they’ll lose interest very quickly. So, make it fun!

Below are 5 ideas (many we’ve used here at SnugZ and experienced the benefit first hand) that you can easily work into your wellness program to make it thrive!

1. Offer Creative Workspaces

Like John Cleese once said, “If you want creative workers give them time to play.” Nobody wants to feel like they are working in a prison cell a.k.a. a cubicle with nothing to stare at but 3 blank walls. Put a ping pong table in the break room, offer colorful and comfy chairs, and surprise them with a desk toy like our RATTLER wood snake cube puzzle.

RATTLER Wood Snake Cube Puzzle (TRATTLER)

2. Remind People to Get Flu Shots

Flu season is back and is already the most widespread on record. Now is a good time to send out a list of locations offering flu shots (especially those covered by the company’s health insurance). To make it easy, you can also arrange for a company to give flu shots on-site. Give each employee a branded hand sanitizer to promote general health around the office.

3. Host a Monthly Healthy Potluck

Everyone loves to eat right? Well, even if they don’t, they should! This one’s easy and tasty. First, decide on a day and then put together a sign up sheet with 2 columns (name and what you’re bringing). Announce that it’s been posted in the break room or send it out to individual teams so people can join in.

4. Practice Zen

Take a deep breath. Stress remains an ever-growing problem throughout the world and especially here in the United States. All of us can reduce stress by becoming more mindful through meditation and yoga. Every couple weeks have a yoga instructor come teach a class in the office or hold regular meditation sessions. Uplift the mood of employees, while promoting happiness and well-being by diffusing ZEN essential oils in your work space.

5. Start Walking (Meetings)

Walk and talk. It’s a concept older than time itself. A few reasons to turn your normal everyday meeting into a walking meeting:

  1. Introduce physical activity into your workday
  2. Get a boost of energy by moving
  3. Be inspired by what you see on your journey
  4. Increase collaboration by moving from one conversation to another
  5. Research suggests walking makes people more creative

Take a Strike Against Cold and Flu Season

Each year everyone stresses the idea of protecting yourself in cold and flu season. But honestly does the flu affect us all? And the bigger picture is how do we protect ourselves?

The truth is 1 in 5 Americans get the flu each year. The United States Center for Disease Control estimates that between 3,000 and 49,000 people die from influenza each year, 90% of which were under the age of 65.

People at high risk are children 6 months to 5 years old, pregnant women, anyone who lives with or cares for infants, health care workers, and adults over 50.

The combination of pneumonia and influenza is the nation’s eighth leading cause of death.

Now that we know the facts, how do we protect ourselves?

Through endless research we have compiled a list of the best tips to prevent your exposure to the cold and flu this season.

  • Eat lots of fruits and vegetables! (for maximum vitamins and minerals)
  • Make sure your hands are clean. Use hand sanitizer or wash hands with warm soapy water.
  • Keep your hands away from your face.
  • Get moving! Exercise boosts immune function.
  • Get plenty of sleep and rest.
  • Decrease stress and meditate
  • Diffuse essential oils into the air (eucalyptus is a great option).
  • Be sure to sneeze properly (into your elbow).
  • If you get sick, stay home.
  • And the single best way to prevent the flu is to get a flu shot.

Be prepared to combat cold and flu germs throughout the day with a bottle of SnugZ hand sanitizer, available in a variety of scents and easy to carry bottles. Check out a few of our favorites like ZSCP or ZS19.

You never know when those germs will strike so keep SnugZ handy this season!
